Your Questions About Online Marketing Tools

Daniel asks…

Photographers – How much interest is there in online marketing tools for independent photographers?

I’m a independent Photographer and I couldn’t find a very good way to market my photography online (other than as stock) But with stock you lose soooo much money. I’m now looking into designing some tools photographers can use to help market their work. Bringing customers to photographers, proofing tools online and etc. Just want to know how much interest there is and see if anyone has some ideas to help. It’s all about Photographers helping photographers. Thanks in advance.

admin answers:

There are already multiple sites on the internet that help provide photographers with online tools.

Collages.net and ourphotoevent.com are two of the biggest online sites in the photography business to help us out. They offer a wide variety of tools such as online proofing, online ordering, online CD creation, mailing lists, event tracking lists and much more.

So, if you are to create an online site, you are going to have an extremly tough time breaking into a business where the product has been pretty much perfected at a very reasonable price.

Sandy asks…

promotional marketing online business tools?

i am trying to market my online business. i have heard of some marketing tools that will help people market their products online, like – reverse word search, adwords, and etc. i need help. i know there is a way to do this – the promotional spots that appear at the top of a search page – i want to be able to get that type of marketing spot. any referrals, or books would be so grateful. thank you for any help.

admin answers:

You’re talking specifically about Sponsored search results (PPC or Pay Per Click), which relates to Google AdWords, MSN adCenter, or Yahoo Search Marketing. Using PPC results, you bid for keywords (e.g. If you are selling blue widgets, you can bid $0.05 per click for the search phrase “blue widgets” and also integrate other popular phrases for your products/services in your paid search campaign.) Google will place this search result and make it appear more frequently based on user behavior (if more users click on it, you’ll be up top more than someone who actually bids $3 for the same keyword).

It’s competitive, and the money adds up quickly, which could be especially more dangerous based on your keyword selection. Also, factors that impact visibility include the presentation of your ad (what you say is important) and the landing page (what you’re advertising). Google uses an unknown algorithm and a metric called the Quality Score in order to determine viability of an advertisement in this zone.

For your sake, since this money can dry up quickly, you *definitely* want to read about it. Here are two books that I recommend:
Winning Results with Google AdWords, by Andrew Goodman
Pay Per Click Search Engine Marketing, by Eugene and Boris Mordkovich

Someone touched upon social media marketing and I happen to have written a book on it. Check out The New Community Rules: Marketing on the Social Web written by Tamar Weinberg. This isn’t PPC but it’s another way (and perhaps cheaper – the only investment is time and understanding of the social space) to market your business using the online communities you visit (including Yahoo! Answers, which just so happens to be in chapter 8). :)

Best of luck.

The vast majority of modern workplaces are not like that. If that is your workplace, you should find a new job.

It is not the success of Satan that is important, but whether we, human, could uphold our principles, no matter what comes in our way.
