I want to know if participating in an online focus group/market research group would be useful in getting an income, besides online surveys? Also, can focus groups and online surveys be classified as a work from home job , as presented in many telecommuting books?

I have a friend who does this as supplemental income. He gets contacted to participate in these groups every so often , like once every 3 weeks, and gets paid $75 per hour. Most sessions, he says, are 2 hours. So it helps him make a little money, but I am not sure it’s a good way to make a living. The issue is they call him when they need him, he has told them he would like to do more, but he takes what they give him. Hope that helps.

I’m looking for a yahoo group that has at the very least at least a few hundred members and hopefully a few thousand. I need to recruit experts in the industry and want groups that are mostly industry experts and not the “work at home” type of online ad gurus.
