HubPages Hits 1 Million Articles

____________________________________________________________________________________________

Content creation may be stagnating across the world, according to a recent report by Forrester Research, but social content site, HubPages, is seeing a rise in article creation. HubPages recently marked the milestone of 1 million articles published on its online platform, a figure made more notable because HubPages asks its authors to create original, magazine-like, interactive content. In turn, HubPages shares 60 percent of the online-ad revenue with its users, making the site the most rewarding place for people to contribute their knowledge.

HubPages lets experts from all walks of life create articles according to their interests and publish it on the site’s technology-enabled platform. the articles, which are organized by topics, are social-interaction enabled; letting HubPages authors connect with each other while also earning money from their published articles.

“A vast number of Web 2.0 companies rely on their users to build their businesses for them through user-generated content. These companies also rely on the online-ad business model. but the generated ad-revenue is not shared with the user on whose labor the business is built,” says Paul Edmondson, Co-Founder and CEO of HubPages. “We do things differently. we share the bulk of the generated ad-revenue with the HubPages authors. Our efforts are to share all our success with all our users.”

The millionth “hub” or article was posted by user Jaynie2000 and featured recipes and decoration ideas for Halloween treats. ”If you’re looking for some neat snack ideas for your little Trick-or-Treaters, you’ve come to the right hub,” begins the article, which goes on to offer a range of kid-friendly ideas for Halloween goodies.

This milestone comes on the heels of HubPages taking strong steps to moderate the quality of content on its site. Over and above its spam and adult content detection technology, HubPages has doubled its moderating staff and increased the technologies they use. this anti-volume, pro-quality decision has resulted in a growth in both good content and in earnings for HubPages and its users.

“It’s in everyone’s best interest that the content on HubPages is of high quality,” says Ren Chin, VP of Marketing. ”We realize that neither advertisers nor good authors want to see their content or advertisements on or near poor quality articles. Our goal moving forward is to help both new and existing users to continue to create great quality articles.”

About HubPages: HubPages is a social content community where everyday experts communicate their knowledge to information seekers through online articles while earning an income. for users, HubPages is the most rewarding place to contribute knowledge while interacting with a like-minded community, making money, and retaining the ownership of their content. HubPages provides users with turn-key technology, a Google-enabled platform and an easy way to be recognized for their expertise and knowledge. More information is available on hubpages.com.

OEM licenses? That’s a proprietary business model. Canonical works with OEM’s, it doesn’t “sell OEM licenses”.

This is yet another unappreciated benefit of having a business model where someone is actually paying for something. You get to pay to get users.
