There are lots of places you can look on the net for guidance as to what topics are popular. From the initial ideas that such a ‘popularity search’ throws up, you can then drill down to find the niches around which you can begin to build your sites.

As always, what you are looking for is guidance as to what is popular in the market only as a way of establishing exactly on what people are willing to spend their money online. There’s no better place to do that than where $60 million dollars is exchanging had every day – eBay. eBay is the largest online marketplace places online where people go to simply buy. so it might make sense that you could use eBay to discover niches where people are spending money online.

Here’s how to do it:

eBay ‘What’s Hot’

Here you have several excellent tools or resources that will show you exactly what people are buying and selling on the world’s biggest auction site. This is a tremendous source of discovering exactly what it is that people are clamoring to buy online.

Let us first look at the ‘hot items by category’ sector. This is a 40 page PDF document that is published by eBay on a monthly basis which breaks down every product category into products that are ‘super hot’, ‘very hot’ and merely ‘hot’.

The exact definitions of how these categorizations are arrived at is contained in the PDF report itself, but the main thing to appreciate is that in this document, eBay is effectively telling you the products and services that people are actually buying.

Armed with this information, you could then use these indicators as the starting point for your ‘big idea’, and drill down deeper to find your niche market in the way that will be illustrated further on in his book. As an example, from this chart you may decide to use ‘MiniDV’ as your starting point and then use the methods detailed later to establish whether there is a viable and profitable niche in this particular product market sector.

Another section of the eBay ‘what’s hot’ page that you should look at is the eBay Pulse. This page shows all of the current most popular searches on the site, as well as the most successful stores based on the number of active listings shown. This is another excellent resource for finding suitable ‘big idea’ starting points.

Continuing to use the ‘cameras and photo’ category of the site, you can now see that the most regularly searched phrase in this category is ‘digital camera’, after which several famous digital camera manufacturers’ brand names are listed.

Adapting eBay ideas to Clickbank

So does this relate to Clickbank products in this niche? to the bottom left of the page, however, there is the ‘Narrow your Results’ section where everything from these pages is further broken down. Here you can further refine your search to a more manageable level.

For example, right at the bottom of the highlighted section in the screenshot above, there are only 302 results shown for books about digital cameras. This may therefore merit further investigation.

If, therefore, you are going to use eBay as a research tool to start your hunt for a profitable niche idea, then I would recommend that you go through each ‘narrowed down’ page subcategory as a way of doing so. one interesting observation from this particular eBay page is that it most definitely satisfies one of our primary requirements, because it is obvious that digital camera devotees have money to spend.

If, therefore, this particular category can be narrowed down sufficiently to find a niche that shows genuine profit potential, then there is little doubt that, were you able to find or create a good enough product, those people in this target market would certainly be able to afford it.

And what might the people who are buying expensive digital cameras be interested in? how about: digital photography. makes sense right? so let’s check out the Clickbank marketplace to see if we can find any products that might satisfy these people’s hunger.

So here as you can see in the screenshot above I’ve search for keywords “digital photography” within Clickbank and it throws back at me a TON of possible products to review and promote to this particular niche of people who want to perhaps “get paid to take pictures” or “learn how to take professional quality digital photos, even if you’ve never used a digital camera before”… You get the idea here.

An idea generated by simply visiting and browsing about eBay, could potentially (and often times will) lead to a huge niche market that you would’ve never thought to look at before.

If you want dominate niche you need to have the right keywords.  We have reviewed several of those including, Market Samurai, Keyword Elite, Wordtracker, the Google Adwords Keyword Tool, as well as their Search Based Keyword tool.

Maybe you’ve tried to find profitable keywords and even with the power tools above, you fell short.  That’s where most people get off track – choosing the wrong keywords to go after.  Tim Godfrey and Steve Clayton’s, new keyword tool ImEye is literally a keyword tool where some extremely profitable keywords find you.  There’s a database of over 1 million keywords and counting that you can instantly tap into.
